We're big Mac people now

Back in 1999, we purchased our first computer. I was familiar with it's internet workings because I used one at work. I'll never forget sitting down with my wife and showing her how to get on the internet. She had no knowledge whatsoever. She pulled out a fresh yellow tablet of paper and dutifully wrote down the specific steps to getting online. SPECIFIC..like this:

1. Plug in the modem. (this was 1999)
2. Click on the big E button. (remember when we all used EXPLORER? ha ha ha..ah, memories )
3. Listen for the dial-up sound.
4. Create a hotmail account.
5. Join a slew of mother clubs on Yahoo

She took to it immediately and I felt quite smart explaining it to her.

FLASH FORWARD TO NOW: After more than a decade of using Windows, she just bought a Mac for the family this week. (Yes, I'm a kept man) My, how the tables have turned. She's quite familiar with a MAC because she'd used one at work. The closest I've come to Apple products is my iphone.

Last night she asked me to load the printer software and I (not kidding here) wasn't exactly sure where to stick the install disc in. Then the install didn't take. Then there was an error message. In frustration, I pushed the chair away from the computer and said 'YOU DO IT". She had no problem.

Mentally, I liken the change from Windows to Mac to suddenly learning to drive on the other side of the road. I keep right-clicking too. (My Twitter & Facebook friends say there's away to change that and I'll figure it out soon enough) That's the other thing; there are plenty of experts out there who'll gladly dispel their hints of Mac Wisdom. That is awesome.

Today it's a little better. I futzed around with iMovie and GarageBand. These are programs that I'm vaguely familiar with and I feel comfortable using. So much so that I made a quick video above..

(channeling Flounder from "Animal House") "This is gonna be great!"
